Building on the optical détournements of Pistolletto’s practice, the scenography and light design of his performance at Bourse de Commerce is a contained expansion of his use of reflection. In Metrocubo d’Infinito, six square mirrors are twined inward, forming a cube. The infinite mirror at the center of the auditorium awaits the artist’s activation under the dramatic scrutiny of a white spotlight that carves geometric shadows on the concrete platform. The habitually transparent background of the stage is hidden by a mirror wall that echoes the artist’s signature medium and integrates the audience in the performance in an unsettling game of refraction.
