Matière Noire is a Paris-based creative studio leading new approaches to spacial design. Built on a network of parallel disciplines, our operation cultivates ambivalence, using observational methods to ground its intuitive impulses. Matière Noire is driven by an appetite for the undefined, the hypothetical, the intangible. Its process celebrates unexpected derivations, developing them into bespoke applications of cross-cultural collaboration.

In the wake of the pandemic, the Courrèges festival is built off a shared desire to reconnect with a sense of community and the thrill of shared abandonment. This rave-inspired event is held in the outskirts of Paris, in a vast outdoor space turned into a maze of smoke and mirrors. Tall, reflective panels diffuse the late-summer sunlight through billowing smoke, cloaking, then revealing the dance floor. A dance of light and space set to a techno beat, it envelops partygoers in a collective daze.
