Matière Noire is a Paris-based creative studio leading new approaches to spacial design. Built on a network of parallel disciplines, our operation cultivates ambivalence, using observational methods to ground its intuitive impulses. Matière Noire is driven by an appetite for the undefined, the hypothetical, the intangible. Its process celebrates unexpected derivations, developing them into bespoke applications of cross-cultural collaboration.

In the twilight of la Sorbonne’s boxed-out library, a cube of smoke slithers behind back-lit figures.Courrèges’ FW’23 dreamy runway space was designed by artist Rémy Brière in collaboration with Matière Noire, crafting the immaterial into an interactive object of technical wonder. A taming of natural forces - of light, fog, air -perpetuates a surreal, almost dystopian, vision of nature which mirrors the spiritual evolutions of Nicolas di Felice’s visual narrative for the season.
