Matiere Noire is a Paris-based creative studio leading new approaches to spacial design. Built on a network of parallel disciplines, our operation cultivates ambivalence, using observational methods to ground its intuitive impulses. Matière Noire is driven by an appetite for the undefined, the hypothetical, the intangible. Its process celebrates unexpected derivations, developing them into bespoke applications of cross-cultural collaboration.

La Pelota's industrial carcass becomes a three-dimensional shrine, where the DNA of Margiela's historic Rue Saint-Maur headquarters is decoded through methodic furniture placement. Each sofa represents a different atelier room, their positioning creating invisible corridors that speak to the brand's philosophy of deconstruction and reconstruction. Shrouding every surface in plain white toile operates as both homage and reinvention. The lighting design treats this canvas-cloaked environment as a projection surface for architectural memory, using subtle intensity variations to delineate zones. Strategic overhead lighting creates an ethereal glow, suggesting hidden structures. Directional beams carve shadows that reference the historic office's window patterns. Models navigate through this domestic archaeology, their movements activating different installation areas.
