Matière Noire is a Paris-based creative studio leading new approaches to spacial design. Built on a network of parallel disciplines, our operation cultivates ambivalence, using observational methods to ground its intuitive impulses. Matière Noire is driven by an appetite for the undefined, the hypothetical, the intangible. Its process celebrates unexpected derivations, developing them into bespoke applications of cross-cultural collaboration.

Created as an appropriation of a spectrogram, ‘Thirty Loss’ is an art installation that re-imagines the function of an archaic tool that was originally designed to generate visual representations of sound frequencies. The show’s space reveals itself through principles of synesthesia, embodying the spectrogram’s intensity, levels and temporality. The producer Hanah_HD subsequently becomes the narrator of the tool’s extrapolations, drawing a visual dialogue between man and machine.
