Matiere Noire is a Paris-based creative studio leading new approaches to spacial design. Built on a network of parallel disciplines, our operation cultivates ambivalence, using observational methods to ground its intuitive impulses. Matière Noire is driven by an appetite for the undefined, the hypothetical, the intangible. Its process celebrates unexpected derivations, developing them into bespoke applications of cross-cultural collaboration.

Scenography
A windswept installation transforms Jean-Paul Gaultier's headquarters into a portal between Parisian couture and maritime mythology. Animated by motorized modules, shrouds of fabric perform in theatrical winds that suggest both the gentle billow of a breeze, and the violent thrashing of a storm. A full-length screen broadcasts this aquatic epic, between promise and chaos - azure horizons dissolve into turbulent grays, fragments of shipwrecked beauty emerge from digital depths. The lighting design amplifies atmospheric shifts, using directional spots to carve dramatic shadows, while ambient washes provide the chromatic foundation for smooth transitions.
