Matiere Noire is a Paris-based creative studio leading new approaches to spatial design. Built on a network of parallel disciplines, our operation cultivates ambivalence, using observational methods to ground its intuitive impulses. Matiere Noire is driven by an appetite for the undefined, the hypothetical, the intangible. Its process celebrates unexpected derivations, developing them into bespoke applications of cross-cultural collaboration.

Under the artistic direction of Camille Miceli, Pucci stages its l'Alba show inside a protected grotto carved into the island of Ortigia - ancient pillars uphold the entrance, stalactite formations once quarried by the Greeks summon ageless memories, an underground pool resting beneath it all. Matiere Noire's contribution is deliberately non-narrative: rather than adding, the scenography is tuned to heighten the history the grotto already holds. In order to extend the site through its basin, atmospheric haze is introduced as a second skin that connects the submerged space and the rest of the environment. Concealed devices lay a low atmospheric veil across the room that catch the rays of an artificial sun. Enveloping textures wash the space in mineral tones, composing a continuous, pictorial impression.
