Matiere Noire is a Paris-based creative studio leading new approaches to spatial design. Built on a network of parallel disciplines, our operation cultivates ambivalence, using observational methods to ground its intuitive impulses. Matiere Noire is driven by an appetite for the undefined, the hypothetical, the intangible. Its process celebrates unexpected derivations, developing them into bespoke applications of cross-cultural collaboration.

Building on Yohji Yamamoto's twenty-year partnership with Adidas, Y-3's Fall 2026 show The Uniform of the Streets, unveils a collaboration with the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula 1 team. Matiere Noire grounds the concept in the language of the race track: three lines of rubber flooring run the length of the runway, blowing up the team's logo underfoot. At the centre of the space, curved structures in lacquered wood - fragments of an F1 circuit rebuilt as architecture - mark the points where the performers meet, doubling as both racetrack and skate ramp. Sloped staging melds with these shapes to fuse two cultures of velocity, high fashion and motorsport, into a single scenographic gesture, engineered with the same precision as the machines it honours.
