Matière Noire is a Paris-based creative studio leading new approaches to spacial design. Built on a network of parallel disciplines, our operation cultivates ambivalence, using observational methods to ground its intuitive impulses. Matière Noire is driven by an appetite for the undefined, the hypothetical, the intangible. Its process celebrates unexpected derivations, developing them into bespoke applications of cross-cultural collaboration.

Scenography
A celebration of the perennial collaboration between Yohji Yamamoto and Adidas, the concept and light design of Y-3’s FW’24 presentation transforms the prestigious Salle Pleyel into an orbital space of indistinguishable proportions. In what resembles a brutalist eclipse, three slender monoliths tower over a checkered runway, tracing intertwining shadows on the matte flooring. A monumental expansion of the brand’s logo, this stripped-back scenography builds a high-contrast stage for the collection’s silhouettes to perform in. Cloaked shapes dressed in black follow a radiant path of totality, gravitating around and through the installation, which presents a graphic play of opposites: bright light, stark dark, graphic gradients. A narrative written in scales of grey - Y3’s signature palette - the show’s theatrical lighting honours the sharp, deconstructed lines that define the brand’s legacy.
